Lady Spirit to Travel to the Dominican Republic! Friday, October 22, 2004 Open Practice -Saturday, October 30, 10:00am and Sunday, October, 31 at 10am @ The New Fraser Field in Lynn, MA!The Lady Spirit’s 18 woman squad has been invited to the Dominican Republic November 2 – November 8 to play a 5 game series against the Dominican women. It will be the first time a women’s baseball team from the US has traveled to the country to compete. Unable to attend the inaugural Women’s World Cup of Baseball in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada this summer, the Dominican Republic is more than excited to have its women play baseball against an international team. The Lady Spirit boasts a 7-2 record this season but looks to this trip for more than just adding to the win column. More importantly, the Lady Spirit hopes to experience the local cultural using baseball as the medium of communication. Along these lines, the NAWBL will be holding clinics and donating baseball equipment to the Dominican. If you have any nice new or used baseball equipment and are interested in contributing to this cause, please e-mail rwallace@nawbl.com as soon as possible as we will be shipping the equipment down before our departure. We hope that our visit will not only help strengthen their women’s baseball program but also develop friendships among the players and an appreciation for another culture.
