Sunday, July 8, 2007

The Pioneers left nothing on the field in their 3-2 loss to the New England Blue Sox last weekend in Detroit. The Can-Am Tournament hosted women's teams from all around the country and many fans caught the best display of women's baseball this year.

The Pioneers went 3-1 in the preliminary rounds just losing to the Blue Sox 5-3. The team went on to defeat the Burlington Bulls (Canada) and East Coast Yankees (New York)

The Pioneers also had an exciting come behind victory in the bottom of the 7th against the Washington Stars. Down 6-2, the team pulled together 5 runs to win the game with discipline at the plate and aggresiveness around the bases.

The Championship game was full of exciting defensive and offensive moments by the Pioneers incluing an amazing diving catch by Karen Costes in the bottom of the 5th to hold out the blue sox. Courtney Duggan pitched a complete game and was solid throughout allowing only 1 walk. The Pioneers were errorless in the field to the Blue Sox 4 errors.

Unfortunately, with the game tied 2-2, the Blue Sox scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.

"Though, I know as a team we were disappointed in the final outcome on the field, we played together while giving 100% of our effort.  Our goal remains to win any tournament we compete in and to represent ourselves and our league with class and dignity." Stated Coach Cardello.

The Pioneers look forward to an exciting summer with the Japanese National team stopping in at Holman Stadium for a two game series on August 28th and 29th at 12pm.
